Rev. Dr. Philip Knutson

Dr. Knutson will welcome and orient us to South Africa.
Rev. Dr. Philip J. Knutson was born at Hlabisa in the Province of
KwaZulu-Natal, in the Republic of South Africa where his parents served as ALC missionaries for a number of years.
He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (BA African
Studies), Luther Seminary, St. Paul MN (MDiv), the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (MTh) and the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town where he received his doctorate in missiology in 1998.
Phil is married to Lou-Marie who is a citizen of South Africa and a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch. Lou-Marie is a high school chemistry and physics teacher. They have two daughters, Lindiwe and Thandiwe.
Phil is based in Johannesburg and serves as ELCA Global Mission Regional Program Assistant in Southern Africa. Areas of activity include maintaining contact with companion churches and dioceses in 10 countries and with ELCA companion synods and mission personnel serving in the region. Philip
also assists in the development of Christian education resources for Sunday Schools, confirmation, lay leadership and clergy training in the region.
